ABOUT COMPASS 2026
Re: “Connecting Our Future” – TY Short Film Competition
In collaboration with TUS Digital Marketing Department
Following the success of previous COMPASS competitions, Shannon Foynes Port Company, in collaboration with the TUS Digital Marketing Department, is delighted to invite Transition Year students to participate in this year’s short film competition, titled “Connecting Our Future.”
The COMPASS initiative aims to raise awareness of the vital role the ports within the Shannon Estuary play in supporting and developing our regional communities. The competition is open to schools in Counties Clare, Limerick, Kerry and North Tipperary, and is particularly suited to Transition Year students. It offers a unique opportunity to develop skills in creativity, collaboration, storytelling, research, teamwork and public presentation.
The Challenge:
Students are invited to take part in a dynamic and creative challenge that explores one of Ireland’s most strategically significant natural assets — the Shannon Estuary.
Participants are asked to produce a short film (maximum 7 minutes) that explores the following key themes:
- The significance of the Shannon Estuary
- The opportunities presented by Shannon Foynes Port to the Mid-West Region
- The critical importance of connectivity — by sea, road, rail, and air — in driving regional growth and economic development
Students are encouraged to think innovatively, carry out research, and present their insights in a compelling, informative, and creative way. The final film should clearly communicate the strategic role the port plays in shaping the region’s future and its potential as a key national and international gateway.
This year, students are asked to place particular emphasis on the theme of connectivity — a core element of Shannon Foynes Port Company’s vision, and a vital driver of economic opportunity for the Mid West Region and beyond.
