A Message to Students from Our CEO

Pat - Sept 2024 (Water background)

As CEO of Shannon Foynes Port Company, I’m delighted to welcome you to this year’s COMPASS Transition Year short film competition, Connecting Our Future.”

Following the great success of previous competitions, we are proud to continue this exciting initiative in collaboration with the Dept. of Marketing, Enterprise & Digital Communication, Technological University of the Shannon. Through COMPASS, we aim to engage students across Clare, Limerick, Kerry, and North Tipperary in exploring the vital role the Shannon Estuary plays in shaping the future of our region.

This year’s theme — connectivity — highlights how strong transport links create opportunities for people, communities, and the economy. As Ireland’s deepest sheltered port, Shannon Foynes Port Company plays a key role in connecting the Mid-West to global markets by sea. With major investments now planned in road and rail infrastructure, the region is becoming even more connected — supporting future jobs, growth, and innovation. We invite you to explore how these developments can shape a more connected and sustainable future for your generation.

Through research, teamwork, and storytelling, this competition is a chance to build valuable skills and to share your vision of how the Mid-West can thrive in an increasingly connected world.

I look forward to seeing your inspiring projects and the creative ways you imagine a more connected and sustainable future for the Mid-West of Ireland.
